Tiny wieners, a skillet full of barbecue sauce, and a little kitchen chaos. Adapted from Sarah Alvord of Feeding Your Fam, with 1/4 cup brown sugar instead of 1 cup.

1 batch

What you need

The wieners

  • 3 packages Lil Smokies, 14 ounces each

The sauce

  • 2 cups barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Sugar + spice

  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

THE PLAN.

  1. Stir the barbecue sauce, ketchup, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and seasonings together in a skillet.
  2. Add the Lil Smokies and turn them through the sauce until coated.
  3. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then cover and reduce to medium-low. Cook for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Leave the lid off for the last 5 minutes so the sauce can reduce. Taste near the end and add brown sugar 1 tablespoon at a time if needed. Keep warm over low heat for serving.
